On tour with Ross Fisher

It’s been a while since I last wrote, but finally I’m at home for the Christmas break and I have a bit of time on my hands. After a long season I’m absolutely shattered, to be honest with you. Still, I figured writing my Wentworth online diary wouldn’t take too much out of me!

Looking back on the 2008 season it’s been a brilliant year for me. I secured another Tour win at the European Open and played really solid golf all through the latter part of the season to finish sixth on the European Order of Merit. I’ve also climbed to the fringes of the top-30 in the Official World Golf Rankings. Overall, I’d have to say I have surpassed the goals I set myself at the start of the year and obviously that gives me a lot of satisfaction. Hopefully this gives me a platform on which to make a strong start to the New Year.

I feel even more confident now than I did 12 months ago.

And with having such a good 2008 season it’s only natural that I’m inclined to start setting even higher standards for myself. I want to be playing consistent golf in 2009 and hopefully I can add to my collection of Tour Wins. I want to make upward progress in the World Rankings, too. Trust me I’m going to be working very hard to achieve those goals; not only with my coach Christian but also in the gym making sure I’m in good shape physically. Like I said, the golf season stretches to almost an entire year and you need to be really fit to last the distance, so to speak.

For now, though, I think I can be excused for maybe eating a little bit too much over Christmas. It’s the done thing really, isn’t it! We’ve had the kitchen done-up at home, just in time for Jo and me to entertain both of our families over the Christmas period. Everyone is coming to us, so the pressure is really on. Being newlyweds, the whole ‘Turkey and Trimmings’ thing is pretty new to us. I think for everyone’s sake we’ll probably be looking for a little bit of help and guidance from the oldies.

Anyway, that’s about it for now. I just want to say thank you again to everyone at Wentworth for the support that you all give me during the season; it really means a lot to me.

So, have a great Christmas and all the very best for a healthy and happy New Year. I’m sure I’ll see you all soon.
