Wentworth’s third golf course, the Edinburgh, officially opened for play. Designed by John Jacobs, with input from Gary Player and Bernard Gallacher, it drew instance acclaim and was soon hosting the Wentworth Senior Masters, one of the highest profile events on the European Senior’s Tour.
It continued the Wentworth tradition of providing a superb members’ club and at the same time hosting golf’s most prestigious tournaments and greatest players. It is part of its magic. To play here is truly to walk in the footsteps of the legends of the game. It is one of golf’s unique attractions…and one of Wentworth’s greatest attributes.
In the passing of a mere eight decades, Wentworth has attained an international reputation for excellence and a tournament pedigree of the absolute highest quality; a fitting legacy to all those who made Wentworth what it is today, and a rock-solid platform on which the Club can continue to excel, thrive and innovate in the next eight decades and beyond.
